After All

Last summer I had a chance to road-trip with a buddy of mine from Philly all the way to Portland, OR. We made stops in Detroit, Des Moines, Vegas, Denver, Boise and a few other places. The photo above was from our trip. When you’re from a big city with buildings on every corner, a trip like this really affects you. For one, you are astounded by the sheer magnificence of what you’re seeing. There were several points on the road when I told my friend that I just couldn’t handle any more beauty…I was overwhelmed! My eyes and mind and heart were so enchanted by these tall mountains, colorful skies, and endless fields. Even if you don’t consider yourself the ‘religious’ type, these kinds of moments tend to feel ‘spiritual.’

Secondly, you’re immediately given an education on how small you really are. While we were in Colorado, we decided to drive up a 14,000+ foot mountain. When we looked down from where we drove, the large pond we stood by earlier now looked like a few drops of water. As I stood on the edge of this 14,000 ft mountain, gazing over the vast expanse, it was a small glimpse into the splendor and transcendence of God. The vastness of what I was beholding was a reminder of the distance between who man is and who God really is. He is the artist who sculpted the mountains and painted the skies. He is also the all-powerful one, who with a single breath could level these towering masses of rock to the ground. And yet, God, in his immense grace towards us, has closed the gap between us and Him through his Son, Jesus. Those few moments on top of that mountain brought fear, awe, delight, assurance, and worship in my heart.

We’ll be singing a new song this Sunday by the David Crowder Band that talks about these kinds of moments and about the glory and splendor of God. The chorus is an anthem-style tune that simply proclaims God as Holy. Links to our setlist this week are below. Looking forward to singing with you all this Sunday.

After All
Wholly Yours
By Thy Mercy
Jesus Paid It All
Song of Hope

I can’t comprehend your infinitely beautiful and perfect love
Oh, I’ve dreamed dreams of majesty as brilliant as a billion stars
But they’re never bright enough
After all

You are holy

I will sing a song for You my God with everything I have in me
But it’s never loud enough
After all

Heaven and earth are full
Full of Your glory, Your glory
My soul it overflows
Full of Your glory, Your glory
Oh, blessed is He who reigns
Full of Your glory, Your glory
My cup it can’t contain
All of Your glory, Your glory
Hosanna, we are found
After all You are…
