My excellent wife just bought this excellent book. I found a copy on our dining table and was deeply encouraged. The thought of her regularly praying Biblically saturated prayers for me floods me with hope I can’t describe. Wives, I want to encourage you to follow suit for the sake of your husbands. You can even find a free online version here.
Here’s a random sample to whet your appetite.
Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them. May my husband keep them also. The unfolding of Your word gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. May he open his mouth and pant, because he longs for Your commandments. Turn to him and be gracious to him, as is Your way with those who love Your name.
Keep steady his steps according to Your promise, let no iniquity get dominion over him. Redeem him from man’s oppression, that he may keep Your precepts. Make Your face shine upon him, Your faithful servant, and teach him Your statutes. May his eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep Your law (Psalm 119).
And that’s just from the opening pages. Ladies, let me leave you with one endorsement for the book that makes a case for it better than I could.
Charles Spurgeon said we can do our husband “no truer kindness in the world” than to pray for him. Yet as wives, we often struggle to pray consistently for our husbands. We forget in the busyness of life; or when we do remember, our prayers may lack clarity and direction. That’s what makes this book such a valuable tool for any wife who wants to grow in praying for her husband—and isn’t that all of us? Prayers of an Excellent Wife will inspire you to pray faithfully and fervently, and instruct you how to pray according to Scripture. I hope many wives will use these prayers to lavish their husbands with kindness.
