They’re off! The majority of the Medical/IT Missions Team is either in Bombay or on a flight right now heading over.
It’s been wild to see this whole thing come together. Several months back, Jim announced the opportunity for medical professionals to go to Bombay for two weeks to help BTC run their medical clinic in the heart of the Red Light District. Now the chance of getting a team from Seven Mile Road was a long shot. At least that’s what I thought. People had jobs and families and responsibilities. Plus the trip was not cheap. It was a good idea, but there was no way. And yet before you knew it, 11 out of the 16 people going were Seven Milers.
The team is wonderfully diverse. There are men and women, married and single, moms and dads. There are doctors, nurses, and computer professionals. They come from different ethnicities. God provided the necessary funds, the right people, and everything else that was needed to make this happen. And today months of prayer and preparation came to a head as the team boarded planes headed to Mumbai.
We commissioned the team two weeks ago preaching from 2 Corinthians 1:3-11. Verse 11 says, “You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.” And so us who are not going but sending, we must help by prayer. Here are three prayer requests for Day One:
1. Pray for safety and health for all who are traveling.
2. Pray for those who are staying behind (families, friends, particularly children, etc).
3. Jon & Shelley couldn’t fly out with the rest of the team because of some missing paperwork. Thankfully, they have the necessary documents and were given seats on a flight tomorrow evening. Pray for their safety as they travel a day later; and that they and the team would not be discouraged but trust God with this minor setback.
