A few weeks ago, we preached on money for the very first time at Seven Mile Road. It was really well received. Our people began to see that giving and generosity was not about checking off a religious box or satisfying a law. Rather it was in response to and a reflection of the gospel. God gave generously, joyfully, and sacrificially to us, and we want our giving to be the same way.
Here are a few resources for those of you who would like to study and think about stewardship some more:
Pastor Tim Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York has some free sermons, devotionals, Bible studies, and other resources to help you think about stewardship and generosity through gospel lenses.
Pastor Jamie Munson from Mars Hill Church in Seattle has a short, easy to read, but really helpful book on thinking Biblically about money. The book has some really practical things to say about giving, saving, spending, investing, and whatever else you can do with money.
Though I haven’t read them yet, I’ve also heard good things about Randy Alcorn’s The Treasure Principle and Craig Blomberg’s Neither Poverty nor Riches. Anyone else come across something good that they’d recommend?
