From Philippi to Philadelphia

Aug Preview

This month we had our last preview service.

That’s crazy.

Here’s what that means. That means that come September, we’re moving from having corporate services once a month to weekly. That’s every week. That means service is always going to be 7 days away. Week after week. Ok, I’m being a bit of a drama queen. This is a journey that began in September of 2003. And now 6 years later (no one can accuse of being hasty!), we’re about to start this new season. Crazy.

At our last preview service, we preached from Acts 16 and the planting of the church in Philippi. Philippi was a rough city. Planting a church in Philippi was like planting a tree in concrete. The soil was hard. And yet, in the most unlikely of cities, among the most unlikely of people, God birthed a Gospel-centered, missional, community. That’s our prayer for Philadelphia too. The whole day was a blast. We sang, we preached, we gave, we prayed, we confessed, we took the sacrament, we shared a meal – it was great.

More reflections on this past year to come. But you can celebrate with us that this last service was a good way to end one season and get ready to launch into a new one.
